EAR PAIN
Ear pain, also known as earache or otalgia, can be caused by various factors and conditions affecting the ear, such as infections, inflammation, injury, or underlying medical conditions.
SOME COMMON CAUSES OF EAR PAIN:
- Ear Infections: Infections of the middle ear (otitis media), outer ear (otitis externa or swimmer’s ear), or inner ear can cause significant ear pain. These infections are often accompanied by symptoms such as fever, hearing loss, drainage from the ear, and discomfort when pulling on the earlobe.
- Inflammation: Inflammation of the ear canal or Eustachian tube can lead to ear pain. This inflammation can be caused by various factors, including allergies, sinus infections, or irritation from foreign objects.
- Earwax Buildup: Excessive earwax accumulation can cause discomfort and ear pain. It may also lead to temporary hearing loss or a feeling of fullness in the ear.
- Trauma or Injury: Trauma to the ear, such as a blow to the ear or insertion of foreign objects, can cause pain and injury to the ear canal or eardrum.
- Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Disorder: Dysfunction of the temporomandibular joint, which connects the jaw to the skull, can sometimes cause referred pain to the ear.
- Barotrauma: Changes in air pressure, such as during air travel, scuba diving, or driving in high altitudes, can lead to barotrauma, causing ear pain and discomfort.
- Dental Problems: Dental issues, such as infections or impacted wisdom teeth, can sometimes cause referred pain to the ear.
- Sinus Infections: Infections or inflammation of the sinuses can cause pressure and discomfort in the ears, leading to ear pain.
